<br />
Hey there peeps,<br />
<br />
I recently ordered a coyote skull from ebay, which unbeknownst to me, was poorly cleaned, and poorly packed. When I received it, the thing was smelly, greasy, and covered in mold. Also, the jaw was glued shut with hot glue, leaving plastic tendrils everywhere.<br />
<br />
After having my messages ignored by the salesman, I decided to take matters in my own hands and fix it myself.<br />
<br />
I started off with a water and dish soap bath, leaving the skull to soak for a couple of days. That got rid of the greasiness. Afterwards, I scrubbed the bones and soaked them in 70% solution of isopropyl alcohol, to help kill the nastiness and deal with the residual smell. I finished by leaving the bones rest for a couple of days in hydrogen peroxide, which whitened the skull, and help dissolve all residual mold and tissue still in the bone.<br />
<br />
Once dry, it was a simple matter of gluing the teeth and the two halves of the lower jaw with good ol' elmer's glue, and I was left with a beautiful, squeaky-clean skull to adorn my bookshelves.<br />
<br />

Here's, sooner than expected, the video detailing the painting, hairing and finishing of the shrunken head. That thing looks great in a bell jar on my dresser! Now I'm bored. I need to find something else to make! More pictures after the break.<br />

<br />
Hey there peeps!<br />
<br />
I just finished the sculpture to make a new batch of shrunken heads. I decided to try making a timelapse video of the process, in hopes that you'll find it interesting. It's anotated with a few tips here and there. It's sped up around 1600%, so the whole process, which took a bit over 3h, is now down to 12 minutes.<br />
<br />
Soon enough, I'll post one of the molding process.<br />

<br />
Hey there!<br />
<br />
It's been quite a while. I haven't been doing much arts 'n crafts lately, lots of new things going on, plus I discovered Skyrim and that mofo has been eating much of my free time between work and the girlfriend.<br />
<br />
Nevertheless, I still enjoy each and every opportunity I get of making some cool stuff, and such an opportunity happened recently, so of course I took it and rode it aaaaall niiiight loooooon (and then some.)<br />
<br />
Basically, a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theflayingmetal" target="_blank">local metal band</a> who had their album cover designed by the good folks at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/murinsolite" target="_blank">Le Mur Insolite</a> (of which I've been a resident artist for a year now) approached them recently for something a bit bigger. So, <a href="http://www.anktil.com/" target="_blank">Anktil</a>, the co-owner of the gallery, amazing artist and good friend of mine, thought including me in the deal.<br />
<br />
We basically had to create a life size flayed body prop, that needed to be hidden inside a wooden crate, and could be pulled up and hung by its feet at the right moment by pulling a chain linked to an attached gallows. Oh, and the whole thing had to fit inside a Honda Civic.<br />
<br />
Patrick took care of crafting a collapsible gallows and a big enough (but small enough) crate, while I was tasked with creating the dummy.<br />
<br />
I unfortunately didn't take many pictures, and since I lost the cable to charge my nikon, the pictures I have come from my shitty cell phone. Sorry about that!<br />
<br />
Pictures and more info after the break!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Ok, so for the design, we had a quick and slightly unclear sketch made by their guitarist. They wanted the whole thing to remind people of the "I" in their logo, and we needed to have it ready by the time they did their album release, so that left us a couple weeks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Logo designed by <a href="http://www.synbryo.com/" target="_blank">Synbryo</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started out by evaluating what the materials would cost me and whipping up a quick sketch just to make sure we understood each other, and that it was doable within our budget.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIf_GDRHPtNh8ts_8dPzg2t6XGfgaj8FPK_zkxtfE3Vg8C3UQnMjeyq92z9klxdgGJ8W0zWcNfDp2Al8MEhLSYllUrVpDwAKivC-SR3LIchxjqKi313DAPAOWZfSOKxuWycPXRUCjOWu8s/s1600/Render.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIf_GDRHPtNh8ts_8dPzg2t6XGfgaj8FPK_zkxtfE3Vg8C3UQnMjeyq92z9klxdgGJ8W0zWcNfDp2Al8MEhLSYllUrVpDwAKivC-SR3LIchxjqKi313DAPAOWZfSOKxuWycPXRUCjOWu8s/s1600/Render.jpg" height="320" width="160" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the body itself, I started out by making a duct tape double of myself. It's the easiest way I could find to create a strong, flexible, cheap body form, and it worked out pretty well! I shortened the limbs and the torso a bit (because a 6'3'' corpse wouldn't probably fit inside a honda civic), and then made some "bones" for the limbs using PEX pipes covered with pipe insulation, made a spine out of thick rope, and I stuffed the whole thing with poly fill.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made the hands out of wire covered in foam, same thing for the toes, and as for the head, I bought a foam wig form for around 5$. I used some monster clay (the best oil based clay around, IMO) to build of the features. I then covered it with a few layers of papier maché. I removed the papier mache shell from the head, emptied the clay, and glued the shell back on. I threaded the rope I used for the spine up through the skull, and covered the whole deal with a few more layers of papier maché for strength.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3N1wOiBcFRCjZA2fXu67wYy3cdSsIBTYcCGt7Hio9DinMGpDVaVVmBhBVzUiFaj74LZ1huyqtkGcbIYMIT3GRim5MfUFA4ydQvyv6yuXqs8R6dVd5ZobLUJM_RUldGFnK9G01n0LwNNaL/s1600/IMG_20150329_221542189_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3N1wOiBcFRCjZA2fXu67wYy3cdSsIBTYcCGt7Hio9DinMGpDVaVVmBhBVzUiFaj74LZ1huyqtkGcbIYMIT3GRim5MfUFA4ydQvyv6yuXqs8R6dVd5ZobLUJM_RUldGFnK9G01n0LwNNaL/s1600/IMG_20150329_221542189_HDR.jpg" height="320" width="179" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then proceded to add definition to the torso by gluing strips of soft foam where the ribs and the hip bones should be.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Afterwards, it was simply a matter of covering the whole body with latex soaked paper towels and cotton batting to create the flesh/skin. By far the messiest part of the process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
Once that was dry, I painted the whole body with a 50/50 mix of latex and acrylic paint, to create the look/color of raw flesh. I then pulled some tan colored nylon stockings over the different parts of the body, covered those in liquid latex, and then tore some holes in them to add texture and show the raw flesh through, like skin that would have been torn off.</div>

All in all, we managed to pull it off pretty well, and the guys were really happy with their purchase when we unveiled him to them. That in itself was a great payoff, and I hope he'll last through years of metal shows and abuse!</div>

<br />
Hello everyone!<br />
<br />
Just a quick word to let you know where you can see my work around halloween!<br />
<br />
First of all, beginning on october 19th and running until christmas, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/435999963183296/">my latest oils will be on show</a> at the art gallery <a href="http://www.murinsolite.com/">"Le Mur Insolite"</a>, which I mentionned a few times until today. The gallery was an old convenience store that has been transformed in a dark artist's haven and now works hard to bring the unusual and the bizarre to the general population.<br />
<br />
Also on display will be one of my <a href="http://darkartifacts.blogspot.ca/2012/07/the-creation-of-tsantsa.html">shrunken heads</a>, my <a href="http://darkartifacts.blogspot.ca/2013/01/the-hand-of-glory-part-one.html">hand of glory</a>, and my <a href="http://darkartifacts.blogspot.ca/2010/01/amazing-feejee-mermaid-from-borneo.html">feejee mermaid</a>, all of which will be available for sale.<br />
<br />
For those who can't make it to Quebec City but live close to Montreal, until halloween, I will have a few oils & watercolors on display at the <a href="http://www.usine106u.com/">Usine 106U</a> gallery near the Plateau Mont-Royal.<br />

So what I did firstly, was to open a bottle of beer. In this
case, a Shandy, by Rickard’s. It’s a pale lager with a slight lemony taste,
very refreshing. But I digress. Once I had something to drink, I simply mixed
together a drop of Burnt Umber oil paint, a drop of Ivory Black oil paint, and
my oil medium of choice, Liquin by Winsor & Newton (You can substitute the
medium of your choice). My goal was to create a creamy, easily spreadable dark

<br />
That night at the bar was actually a fundraiser for <a href="http://www.murinsolite.com/">Le Mur Insolite</a>, the darkest, friendliest, most bizarre gallery in the province of Quebec. While we tried to give something to watch with our painting, <a href="http://www.djkronos.com/">DJ Kronos</a> was spinning great industrial music, tickets to win two gorgeous pendants by local artist <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/rottenz">Rottenz</a> were sold and the gallery kept about 15% of all sales of alcohol, courtesy of the bar.<br />
<br />
While the evening started with the bar almost empty with the worst thunderstorm I've seen in years raging outside, it ended up being a success, bringing about 400$ to the gallery, and an invitation from the Temps Partiel to do that again every three months.<br />
<br />
The finished canvas is now on sale at the Mur Insolite.<br />

<br />
Hey there guys!<br />
<br />
For the last few months, I had been working here and there on the design and illustrations of a concept album, produced by a talented, passionate local progressive metal band called <a href="https://www.facebook.com/DeadCtizen">Dead Citizen.</a><br />
<br />
The lyrics from the album tell a story, and it was my job to create the universe around it. I'm very grateful towards the band members for giving me a chance to make their work come to life, so to speak, and I've designed every element, from the band's new logo, to the humongous bio-mechanical antenna towering over the city in which the story takes place, including an illustration for each single song.<br />
<br />
Now, the album will finally be released. If by any chance, some of you are around Quebec City on the 8th of June, stop by the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bar-le-Temps-Partiel/191306510900719">Temps Partiel</a>, a friendly local alternative bar, at around 21pm, to attend the release party.<br />
<br />
The band will play the album live for you guys, with <a href="http://mire.bandcamp.com/">Mire</a> doing the opening.<br />
<br />
I'll be there, enjoying the show while downing a few cold ones with a couple of friends, and the album will be on sale, though I don't know at which price.<br />
<br />
Here's the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/569315566445038/">facebook event</a> if you're interested!David G.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16581915344908059499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6622581494438002844.post-69963887265605680052013-05-01T14:10:00.000-04:002013-06-12T16:20:19.550-04:00My final school animation demoHey there folks!<br />

This time, instead of a fae folk body, he presents to us the corpse of a small humanoid alien. Lovely work.<br />

The mix of live action, 2D, and 3D animation gives quite an interesting look to this short, which evolves around a strange, solitary woman, haunted by the voices of the dead.<br />

Born in 1959 in Brazzaville, Congo's capital city, De Sagazan is a painter, sculptor and performance artist located in Saint-Nazaire, France. His whole body of work transpires movement, aggressivity and an innate creepiness.<br />
<br />
Transfiguration, his most famous performance, can be seen in Ron Fricke's 2011 film <i>Samsara.</i><br />

German then Flemish painter of the 15th century, he painted mostly religious and biblical scenes, like many of his peers. He was perhaps a tad bit more creepy though.<br />
<br />
From HansMemling.org:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>"Hans Memling (Memlinc) (c. 1430 - 11 August 1494) was an Early Netherlandish painter, born in Seligenstadt/Germany, who was the last major fifteenth century artist in the Low Countries, the successor to Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden, whose tradition he continued with little innovation.[citation needed]</i></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Born in Seligenstadt, near Frankfurt in the Middle Rhein region, it is believed that Memling served his apprenticeship at Mainz or Cologne, and later worked in the Netherlands under Rogier van der Weyden (c. 1455-1460). He then went to Bruges around 1465."</i></div>

Seriously, though; every subject this man painted ended up looking quite creepy, and along with another, more reknowned painter of his era, Hieronymus Bosch, his work has been and still is a great source of inspiration for artists worldwide who want to insert uncanny aspects in their figurative work.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
One of my favorite painters, Michael Hussar, once painted an imagined self-portrait of Memling, a picture which can be seen as a strong influence on most of my oils.</div>

<br />
Featuring a sinister undertaker who's presence is an omen of death, a one-legged, guitar playing tramp, and a preacher seeking to manipulate his parishioners, this short presents a delightfully creepy story with raw, gritty graphics which fits perfectly over a soundtrack on which <a href="https://soundcloud.com/sonsofperdition">Sons of Perdition</a> performed.<br />

A truly enjoyable 9min32, which I'm sure you'll love.<br />

As you probably know by now, I enjoy dabbling in "fine" arts now and then. Nothing works better to boost up one's mood than a solvent high. I recently made a quick little painting of Cthulhu, and I thought I'd show you how I usually paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5-H8V7elO9h73_uS9cuJrlMDSLG9pH1y3OLcmBmscjDGPrGtPLxVRkSz5z8FKaaw01wDSLkvHqdOF_ibVOu40N8wIR9TNrltzA-XvHWSbRbC6KW9LM7HCNONwlZiuH-qwPxdxKH0sx8WF/s1600/ID.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5-H8V7elO9h73_uS9cuJrlMDSLG9pH1y3OLcmBmscjDGPrGtPLxVRkSz5z8FKaaw01wDSLkvHqdOF_ibVOu40N8wIR9TNrltzA-XvHWSbRbC6KW9LM7HCNONwlZiuH-qwPxdxKH0sx8WF/s320/ID.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<i>My art studio, AKA the floor of my 1 bedroom flat.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Following the jump, I'll show you pictures from each step/sitting with an explanation for what I'm doing. Keep in mind though that it is in no way intended to be a tutorial, but simply a way for me to present the methods I've developed through trial and error in order to achieve somewhat satisfying results. Oils are still a mysterious and frustrating medium for me, though, but y'know, practice makes perfect.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I still have lots of practice to go, that being said!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I started out with a cheap, store-bought stretched cotton canvas, 16'' x 16'' in size. I normally dislike the rough texture of store bought canvases (these guys are cheap on the gesso!) so before painting, I like to apply a few coats of gesso and sand them down a bit, in order to get a finish closer to an eggshell than the cheese grater texture that normally comes with such cheap canvases.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjniTs8y2sbjJ2uz9JnLpo75sWjnHCz2DU9sYpOnV3-R4rVI76SzakaIaB4y4QjUaEB4o29SWsi1ZkGX34FMlx7_vqVmIvjN-D1uE-z86UXVNhHhjrp6C9EEY7Kq7KzlGtGZhV3QzPYkGZY/s1600/IMG_0347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjniTs8y2sbjJ2uz9JnLpo75sWjnHCz2DU9sYpOnV3-R4rVI76SzakaIaB4y4QjUaEB4o29SWsi1ZkGX34FMlx7_vqVmIvjN-D1uE-z86UXVNhHhjrp6C9EEY7Kq7KzlGtGZhV3QzPYkGZY/s320/IMG_0347.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here you can see I sketched out the beast. Nothing much to explain. I use 2B pencils, but that's just a matter of personal preference. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUR76fXe4cuEb4GgXBSFqu3E-6HsTro_AbHSq3DSCx1DUXf5AJI1KxwkCwrW-UnVF7kzmD6d37siuRXKzrP-D_awzwro4KfLuWqsZrghUJf7arzx5P12sOqmT_QnCoQz4rIWutF1bzK88n/s1600/IMG_0348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUR76fXe4cuEb4GgXBSFqu3E-6HsTro_AbHSq3DSCx1DUXf5AJI1KxwkCwrW-UnVF7kzmD6d37siuRXKzrP-D_awzwro4KfLuWqsZrghUJf7arzx5P12sOqmT_QnCoQz4rIWutF1bzK88n/s320/IMG_0348.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For the painting, I started by outlining the different forms with ivory black mixed with a bit of Liquin Original painting medium. Afterwards, I filled the background with a mix of prussian blue and ivory black to darken it and give it a base color.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1si_NXwUGleCVqdJhjCkmG-PY4tuitflgzZ0UmtyNnlHhyuqcb3JxBB9moRCeTMSl0V7hIYc9G-hCgWo9pFsYA4Zqzx_xgH3xloBzs02GUrCXIqnxvNyH_hsTmt1khBUBmu3XCt6oKurb/s1600/IMG_0351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1si_NXwUGleCVqdJhjCkmG-PY4tuitflgzZ0UmtyNnlHhyuqcb3JxBB9moRCeTMSl0V7hIYc9G-hCgWo9pFsYA4Zqzx_xgH3xloBzs02GUrCXIqnxvNyH_hsTmt1khBUBmu3XCt6oKurb/s320/IMG_0351.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is followed by filling out the midtones of the painting with a mix of ivory black and lead white. I try to sculpt the general shapes of the subject, working with different shades of gray (but nothing close to 50. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA). That's when I got slightly bored (grisaille underpaintings have this effect on me) and left the painting to dry a little while for the next sitting.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGtGt99-QpfUJi1OVT1Hl9RiNv_bA6YVP4HPaIwJf-oZ0xcC3ieSrpbyKJxBNZE2v4v7nPMzdSkEvoMOrtmJK1Vu1zOv317xZJwC5oG_LkLiW9lau0n2E7PLKfxn990hvaQau6eTzRtYuW/s1600/IMG_0352.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGtGt99-QpfUJi1OVT1Hl9RiNv_bA6YVP4HPaIwJf-oZ0xcC3ieSrpbyKJxBNZE2v4v7nPMzdSkEvoMOrtmJK1Vu1zOv317xZJwC5oG_LkLiW9lau0n2E7PLKfxn990hvaQau6eTzRtYuW/s320/IMG_0352.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In this sitting, I simply reworked the grisaille a bit, making highlights a bit lighter and shadows a bit... shadowyer?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In any case, I didn't work much on this setting and let the whole thing rest until it was dry to the touch.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkbNlYqaj7wMES-zND7hMmYcl8w9J6qh1smfLyUJGjdcQ_db-PQr9AvSJvKmdZKwHYrr1uA8CIz3N3ilX8CrCKzBVm-7f3k3_zM38y_rug8KPOJGo7FDRQK6K6ypJMR3lL5JpftHeY2dK4/s1600/IMG_0355.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkbNlYqaj7wMES-zND7hMmYcl8w9J6qh1smfLyUJGjdcQ_db-PQr9AvSJvKmdZKwHYrr1uA8CIz3N3ilX8CrCKzBVm-7f3k3_zM38y_rug8KPOJGo7FDRQK6K6ypJMR3lL5JpftHeY2dK4/s320/IMG_0355.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
NOW we're starting to get Cthulhu-ey. Here, I simply applied a glaze made of viridian (phthalo green works just as well), sap green and a little touch of ivory black all over the painting.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV0vM8tddH_DXlZblSKXgNigRYEQsB6IODrDlMGr2HUK8Ow3M2D58xmmIx5KUEs1weG3Xhq0J1CUyzzZc_iGW7sUFQ-upWsl_FouJi_WZHlBn4EjR6-1tkewps9SBzq2Iwr4LnzPYsEe_Q/s1600/IMG_0361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV0vM8tddH_DXlZblSKXgNigRYEQsB6IODrDlMGr2HUK8Ow3M2D58xmmIx5KUEs1weG3Xhq0J1CUyzzZc_iGW7sUFQ-upWsl_FouJi_WZHlBn4EjR6-1tkewps9SBzq2Iwr4LnzPYsEe_Q/s320/IMG_0361.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I then deepened the black of the eyes, and re-worked the highlights using cadmium yellow and lead white. In the process of blending the highlights, I lifted a bit of the glaze from the canvas, because I'm a n00b. However, that shall be corrected.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZXz7RPue4gROwGrHghkrYkoDMF8AndbqlJu-h6mYwTYy8Yj7QUs9WymhyphenhyphenTYseVxB8FcMrQwOjrFXh214-dFM2acFp3PYjK0iY-O4quVoFvM5N0QsiBMoTRspYXhxS5GPrzwdSEXoU6_GC/s1600/IMG_0366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZXz7RPue4gROwGrHghkrYkoDMF8AndbqlJu-h6mYwTYy8Yj7QUs9WymhyphenhyphenTYseVxB8FcMrQwOjrFXh214-dFM2acFp3PYjK0iY-O4quVoFvM5N0QsiBMoTRspYXhxS5GPrzwdSEXoU6_GC/s320/IMG_0366.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yaaay! another green glaze (applied the morning after, when it was dry to the touch). This time, I used a tad of cadmium yellow in the mix of viridian and sap green. The reason I did this glaze was first of all to help blend in the work I did the day before, plug the places where I had lifted the original green glaze, and also because I suck at painting dark areas so I'd rather darken the whole painting and reaffirm the highlights later.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaDnjzU7v_bzMUQqj1iWCZ6C4Lf-L3zDiLH05SRtkAuYGlyko12ZHJTwc8XAmrvd0HTJTBhhwCEXfAx2tFEI7I-Mvxeo8ekFzezXAL8jmK2rEdGmAUsjl1BSSvqX5XOcDYpvZ2uveEViR_/s1600/IMG_0368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaDnjzU7v_bzMUQqj1iWCZ6C4Lf-L3zDiLH05SRtkAuYGlyko12ZHJTwc8XAmrvd0HTJTBhhwCEXfAx2tFEI7I-Mvxeo8ekFzezXAL8jmK2rEdGmAUsjl1BSSvqX5XOcDYpvZ2uveEViR_/s320/IMG_0368.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here, I applied almost pure cadmium yellow blended with a tad of lead white on the lighter parts of lil' cthulhu, and blended & brushed the whole thing with a large, dry, soft bristled brush to remove most of the brush strokes. I then painted in the specular highlights of the eyes with pure lead white, and brushed a small amount of ultramarine blue well diluted with medium on the background.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That being done, I left it to dry, and on the last sitting I affirmed the blue glaze of the background a bit more, and once THAT was dry, I framed the subject with lines of gold ink and called it a day.</div>
